I bought my first Mac, a Mac SE with a whopping 20 Meg hard drive, in 1987 while attending Ohio University. Now more than 20 years later, and seven Macintoshes later, I still get a thrill when I hear that C chord play at startup. I've created many solutions that use Applescript to automate and enhance other programs like InDesign, Quark and of course, Filemaker Pro.

GrandHorizons was created in 2008 to give me an opportunity to use my Filemaker and Macintosh skills as a independent contractor. This opportunity was like being pushed out of an airplane with a parachute. but as a passenger who wasn’t expected it. I love the newspaper industry, having served as a news photographer for 17 years and almost 15 years as a Prepress/IT support specialist. The downturn in the economy along with the wrath Craig’s List caused by sucking millions of dollars away from newspapers, made me one of the thousands of professionals laid off when drastic budgets cuts were made. I began my professional journey as a news photographer for the Roanoke Times. The Times gave me a great opportunity to complete a Masters Degree from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication. Later, as Director of Photography and Graphics at the Augusta Chronicle I learned how to use and support Macintosh computers as newspapers moved into the digital age. That new love lead me to a position supporting Macintosh prepress systems for Morris Communications. That also lead to creating Filemaker solutions that automated news gathering, streamlined ad order entry and customer management.
